I've Always Been a Poet, 'Though I Didn't Always Know It Page 5

To root through all the filth you’ve reaped

So keep your savior in arm’s-reach

Chose a path less often strayed

  I alone and others saved

Not Jehovah’s Witness, Hebrew, Muslim, Mormon, Pagan, or a Catholic

  I’m…Apocalypticist!

  Innovation

  Meditation

Think we got the lock-down on our own creation

Since when did the Christ-fish grow feet?

But, who am I to beat-down Mendel with a stick?

  Castigations

  Condemnations

Apathetical remorse for our genocidal nature

Who am I to slight Darwinism?

But, oh, my God! My God just ate his!

  Isn’t that so sad?

  But, a matter of fact

Now, who you gonna turn to when Watson murders Crick?

My God is the one who made yours

And I can’t wait ‘til he breaks all seven doors

Only then can the truth be revealed

This idle life is not ours

I believe that the end of times is nigh

And I can’t wait to see the light

  Raised up from mountain high

While all you swine are left behind

To root through all the filth you’ve reaped

So keep your savior in arm’s-reach

Chose a path less often strayed

  I alone and others saved

Not Jehovah’s Witness, Hebrew, Muslim, Mormon, Pagan, or a Catholic…

But, my God is still the one who made yours

And I can’t wait ‘til he breaks all seven doors

Only then can the truth be revealed

This idle life is not ours

I believe that the end of times is nigh

And I can’t wait to see the light

  Raised up from mountain high

While all you swine are left behind

To root through all the filth you’ve reaped

So keep your savior in arm’s-reach

Chose a path less often strayed

  AMONG THE ROWS

Now, way back ‘fore the fall of man

  And oh so, long ago

  There bloomed a blessed garden

  In which young creatures roamed

  And in that sacred forest

  Known well across the land

There stood a most unnatural tree

  Of knowledge and suffering

  Upon an aged branch

  An evil serpent loomed

  A dark against the light

  Death way before the womb

  Out into the wasteland

  The first people were cast

From the garden known as Eden

  Into the land of Nod

  Dance did the sun children

  ‘Gainst the childe of moon

  A murder over tribune

  Cain fled into the woods

And way out there in exile

  Hiding amidst the dark

  Cain met an elemental

And she walked among the rows

Now, let’s skip forward, shall we?

  ‘Bout six centuries, or so

When an angel came to Mary

And thus a son was born

And when he became a man

  Into the desert he roamed

And out there in the abyss

  An ancient serpent strode

And it took the son unto a cliff

And in his ear it hissed

“If ye are the son of God, then ye can surely jump

  “Angels will guide your fall

  “Call your creator’s bluff”

But the son was a wise man

  Born of a carpenter

And when he saw the stranger

He knew just what it was

  It was an ancient evil

  An elemental

But he did not fear it

‘Though it walked among the rows

  Now, every now and then

  This ancient evil doth call

So if you’re out in the wilderness

  Keep your faith at arms

You may find you’ll soon be tested

  By this ancient scourge

It is still a great deception

  Despite what you’ve just heard

For, it calls rats from the cornfield

It calls bugs from the dirt

It calls the childer of the corn

And it calls weeds from the Earth

It calls men to its table

  Until it’s will be done

It plagues the minds of mad kings

As it walks among the rows

What rough beast slouches toward the streets?

  Of new Bethlehem

  Something wicked this way comes

  It is the Fallen Lamb

A crimson draft coursing through the streets

  Until it’s will be done

  Screams of a thousand whispers

  A billion burning skulls

The tortured souls of a world long-gone

  Is our new requiem

  Seven years in darkness

As it walks among the rows

  FINGER TIPPING (Pt. 3)

Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls

  Children of all ages

Have you seen my fingertips today?

I lost them, where? I cannot say

Perhaps they’re somewhere in the lake

It’s my fault they’re not in their place

I’ll take yours, stick ‘em in your face

They roll around and romp in hay

Can’t stop them, best get out their way

No show for fools who come in place of last

  This will not pass

It’s just another gas-masking-bastard on his way dealing death

  The sky is falling

  So run in place

Have you seen my fingertips around?

I stacked them up but they fell down

So I roll them all around

Through the halls and up and down

I lost them somewhere in the fall

I want them back ‘cause they’re the balls

Can’t touch my toes so bend and cough

No show for fools who come to rest

Don’t stop now this is the test of mind and mettle, to the pedal

Watch the armored bombers block out the skies

  The sky is falling

  So run in place

  The sky is falling

  Up-turn your face

And I looked, and I saw the night’s sky brighten with the light of day

  And there he stood

A herald, an angel, arched as he looked on in dismay

And in his hands he held seven golden vials

Each filled with the Wrath of God

  And then…he opened them

  My fingertips have melted off

Bones poured liquid in the trough

Don’t curse God, ‘cause it’s our fault

So run and hide in unlocked vaults

Bury heads in mounds of salt

Wounds rip open with the course of everyday and past remorse

No show for fools who take and run

Their day is up, their time has come

  Scream in terror, hurry, fever

Best believe the world is over

Spread the word and don’t look back

The gods have turned their backs

  The sky is falling down

  The world is undone

No gods above us will ever heal the sun

  THE REPRISE OF EXTINCTION

We flee into the skies but the black-void is merciless

We hide on planets drained and dried as if it safe refuge

No time to pick and choose

We take all that are strong

  We blast into the stars

  Think we’re safe from harm?

We all knew hiding ‘hind dead moons

Wouldn’t spare us from our doom

  And still, imagination

  Exceeds the reach of us

Hail high praise for planet Earth’s

  Successful exodus

  Into galaxies unsearched, untrekked

  Pale Rider followed us

We spewed our plague on worlds unfurled

  And satellites beyond

  Came to new world

  Swiftly conquered

  Erased a whole damn race

  Species below us

  Who cares?

  No, not us

  ‘Cause we have mastered space

We all knew hiding ‘hind dead moons

Wouldn’t spare us from our doom

This is the dawn of done

  The reprise of extinction

The stars erupt and reign down rust

So cover up and pray with us

  History is erased

  All is gone

We all knew the fall would come

  This is it

  Our extinction

Asteroid, meteor, speckled ring of dust

Which hides the key from Astaroth?

  Bow down

On your knees and beg, “Please”

For God to spare this disease

No more rapture, no more future

  Die out

  Our species going extinct

  Time is dwindling

No more rapture, no more future

  High-time for an execution!

Technology helped us proceed for a short, sweet while

But we could not refrain or defend against the end of times

  The universe demands our death

And we’ve yet the debt to pay

The cosmos have come to collect

  Without delay

This is the end of days

We all knew hiding ‘hind dead moons

Wouldn’t spare us from our doom

This is the dawn of done

  The reprise of extinction

The stars erupt and reign down rust

So cover up and pray with us

  History is erased

  All is gone

We all knew the fall would come

  This is it

  Our extinction

  NINE GATES

  DARKNESS RISING

  A motion

  A whisper

  A gesture

  A tremor

A sudden darkness is holding me down

  And in this submission

  A new birth, I’ve found

  I wander with wonder

  Without fear I journey

If silence is beauty, then weakness is holy

  A window

  A doorway

  An exit

  An opening />
The shadows are moving, slithering, and calling

With regret and hesitance I recoil against this

I stand by the portal, stirring, reluctant

A moment has passed by without me present

  I’m drifting further away

  DOWN HERE

Down here, we like a little mischief

Down here, we love a little cheer

Down here, we gargle hard whiskey

Now, blow the head of froth off of an ice-cold beer

Down here, we get a little loco

Down here, we cast long grins

Down here, we get a little side-ways

Now, blow the head of froth off of an ice-cold beer

Down here, we all are family

Down here, our hearts are strong

Down here, we deal in four-score

Now, curl yourself up, I’ll spin ya nice, long yarn

Now, curl yourself up, I’ll spin ya nice, long yarn

  All of our kin

  Are dust in the wind

  Crops growing thin

Like the hair on my head

Down here, we judge no covers

Down here, we pile up arms

Down here, we tell tall tales

Now, come on testify and let the truth ring hard

Down here, we hunt through the winter

Down here, we party ‘til dawn

Down here, we speak our minds

Now, come on testify and let the truth ring hard

Now, sit on down a spell so I can spin ya a yarn

Now, sit on down a spell so I can spin ya a yarn

  All that we see

  Are saplings struggling

  Slowly dwindling

  As frost chokes the leaves

  And all of our kin

  Are dust in the wind

  Crops growing thin

Like the hair on my head

Down here, we flare hot tempers

Down here, we lend our ears

Down here, we toast to starlight

Now, blow the head of froth off of an ice-cold beer

Down here, we play Hell music

Down here, we drink our tears

  Down here, all is dust-bowl

So, blow the head of froth off of an ice-cold beer

Down here, we cast dark shadows

Down here, our bones are scarred

Down here, we deal in four-score

Now curl yourself up, I’ll spin ya nice, long yarn

Down here, we all are equal

Down here, we all dance wrong

Down here, we all dine on ash

Now, come on testify and let the truth ring hard

Down here, we all are family
